Jaipur is the famous Pink City of Rajasthan, one of the prime tourist destinations in India. The city is filled with amazing architectural landmarks, beautiful monuments, stunning palaces, wonderful museums, and colorful markets and bazaars. Why not take a two-day sightseeing tour of the Pink City and its surroundings in your own personal tuktuk (three-wheeled autorickshaw) with everything pre-arranged, a set price, and no hassles.
At 9:00am (or time that suits you) each day, Naresh will pick you at your hotel and take you to visit some of the key destinations around the city. The tour schedule can be arranged to suit your wishes, but a typical tour would include the destinations below. Of course you can stop off for refreshments and lunch along the way, whenever you wish. At the end of each day, Naresh will drop you back at your hotel. The tour is for a fixed, pre-agreed price.
The majestic Amber Fort dates from the 16th century and sits on a hill top about 11 km outside the Pink City. Sit back and enjoy the ride. The fort is open from 8:00 am (until 5:30 pm) and the entrance is reached after a short walk from the car park up an ancient road. If you would rather not walk, you can take a jeep or a golf cart, or even ride on the back of an elephant. The fort is superbly preserved and offers magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and the nearby Maota Lake.
Close to the Amber fort is the Rajput-style Jal Mahal, a stunning water palace that seems to float on the surface of the Man Sagar Lake. The Jal Mahal dates from the 17th century and was once one of the favourite palaces of the Jaipur Royal Family.
Near to the Amber fort is an incredible 16th century step well (or baoli). It has 8 levels of steps down to the water. It’s no longer in use, but you can follow the steps down to the water if you want.
The Jagat Shiromani Temple is a Hindu temple, close to the Amber Fort. Its elaborate carvings depicting gods and episodes from Hindu scripture will mesmerize you. At the temple, there is a famous statue of Krishna. They say that Mirabai, the Hindu Poet and mystic, used to worship at the temple when she was in the area.
No visit to the Pink City is complete without seeing one of the bazaars. These busy shopping streets and alleyways are filled with shops and stalls selling everything you can imagine, from spices, fruit, jewellery, and clothes, to traditional hand-made kitchen cutlery. You can walk a while if you wish, or we can just drive through the bazaar.
At Royal Gator, close to the Nahagarh Fort, you will see the ancient tombs and mausoleums of the Jaipur Maharajas and Royal Family, including the tomb of the city’s founder Jai Singh. The marble domes and columns are the perfect place for that exotic selfie!
Most visitors to Jaipur want to see the City Palace, which is just a couple of minutes away from the Jantar Mantar. The palace complex includes the Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal palaces and other buildings, and is still the home of the Royal Family of Jaipur. It was constructed by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II when he moved his royal court from Amber to Jaipur.
No trip to Jaipur would be complete without a visit to the world-famous Palace of the Winds, the Hawa Mahal. It was constructed Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh to house the ladies of the royal court. Its famous pink pyramid-shaped façade has many latticework windows that allowed the ladies to see outside but not be seen themselves.
The Jaigarh Fort is one of several forts that formed part of the defence of the old capital at Amber, and later the Pink City of Jaipur. This vast sandstone building and its defensive walls that line the surrounding hills are less visited than the Amber Fort. The Jaigarh Fort offers magnificent views of Jaipur, and of the Aravalli Hills that surround the city.
Besides providing protection for the city, the Nahagarh Fort – known as the Tiger Fort – was once a favourite retreat of Jaipur’s Royal Family. You can walk around the roof terraces, or visit the private quarters of the Maharajahs. The views from the ramparts are superb.
The elephant village is a sanctuary for those gentle giants of India. More than 100 elephants live there. You can feed the elephants or walk with them a while. You can also learn all about the different types of elephants and even learn how they are traditionally decorated in Rajasthan. Children and adults alike love the elephant village.
The Monkey Temple (or Galtaji Mandir) is located outside the city at a place where a natural spring emerges from the Aravalli Hills. There is a man-make water tank where people bathe and kids play. You won’t be surprised to hear that many Macaque monkeys live in the temple. They are very tame, but very clever, so you are sure to lose anything you try to eat!
